HOW DO I START BIDDING?
Getting started on BidFair is very easy! Just follow these simple steps to start bidding:
If you want to bid in auctions and get some great deals, you´ll need to register first. Registration is free and very easy, just click the “Register” tab on the homepage and complete your details. After you register, you will receive a confirmation email. Make sure to click the link in this email to verify the set-up of your account. Remember, we’ll give you 4 FREE bids just for signing up!
2. Buy Bids
Each bid costs just R5, available in Bid Packs of 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 bids. BidFair accepts multiple payment methods, including: Visa, MasterCard, SID (Instant EFT),UKash Vouchers and PayFast Vouchers. Once purchased, your bids are automatically added to your account.
3. Choose Products
We have awesome deals every day at BidFair! What auction will you choose to participate in? Will it be the latest iPhone 4, a brand new laptop, or maybe a state of the art pressure cooker? Decide what you want and start bidding!
4. Place bids to win!
Click on the ‘Bid’ button to place a bid. Each time you place a bid, BidFair deducts one bid from your Bids Account, and we add time to the clock. We add time to allow for other users who might want to win an auction item have an opportunity to place a bid. If you are the last bidder when the timer reaches zero, YOU WIN! If you need to leave your computer and want to put this bidding on autopilot, don’t worry – you can use the “BidFair Bid Butler” to place bids for you.
Why do I need to send through my details?
Upon registration, we require certain information from you that is essential for opening up an account with us. Information such as your date of birth is required to verify that you are over the age of 18 and an email address is required to confirm your account and so that we can keep in contact with you when you win your auctions. All personal is kept safe and BidFair will never share your information with outside parties.
Can I register more than one account?
Unfortunately you can only register one account at BidFair. This is to prevent collusion, fake bidders and fraud. If duplicate accounts are created, BidFair will be forced to suspend those accounts and a user may be banned from bidding on auctions.
How Do I Change my Password?
Go to “My BidFair” and click “Change Password”.
I Forgot Password or Username.
Click the “Forgot Password?” link under the login and follow the on-screen instructions. When you reset your password, the email will display your username. From here you will click a link to reset your password.
I’ve moved. How Do I Change or Add New Address?
Go to “My BidFair,” click on “My Addresses”. This page allows you to change your shipping or billing addresses along with other account information. We need a valid physical address in order to deliver your prize, we cannot accept P.O Box addresses unfortunately.
How do I Change my Email Address?
In order to change your email address, please contact email@example.com, and we will be happy to make this change.
Where can I check how many auctions I have won?
Go to “My BidFair” click “Won Auctions”. Here you will be able to view all your paid and unpaid auctions that you have won. You can also view the status of your delivery.
I want to deactivate my BidFair Account
We’re sorry to hear you want to leave us! If you have a concern you wish to address before deactivating your account, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will do anything we can to make your experience at BidFair more enjoyable. If you still wish to cancel your account, please proceed below.
Go to “My BidFair,” click “Cancel My Account.” Then follow the on-screen instructions.

What are BidFair Points?
This is our small way of saying thank you for being a loyal customer! Each time you purchase a Bid Package you’ll earn BidFair Points. You generally get 10% back in BidFair Points eg. If you purchase a 500 Bid Pack, you’ll earn 50 BidFair Points.
Do my BidFair Points ever expire?
Your BidFair Points NEVER expires, so you’ll be able to start accumulating from day one until you are ready to redeem your points.
What can I use BidFair Points on?
Your accumulated points can be redeemed in our BidFair Rewards Store where you will be able to redeem these BidFair Points for free products. Check out www.bidfair.co.za/rewards.
How do I purchase bid packages?
After you have registered, you can click “Buy Bids” at the top of the screen. You will then be taken to a page listing the Bid Packs that we offer: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 Click on the one that is right for you and follow the on-screen instructions to complete your purchase. Now start bidding to win!
What are my payment options?
BidFair accepts a variety of payment options: Visa, MasterCard, SID (Instant EFT), UKash Vouchers and PayFast Vouchers. Choose one that is most convenient for you.
Where can I check my bid balance?
Go to “My BidFair” and visit the “My Bids” section. Here you will find a breakdown of your bids purchased, won and used.
Are my bids refundable?
Unfortunately your bids are non-refundable.
Do bids expire?
Your bids never expire so you don’t need to use them all at once.
Can I transfer bids to my Friend?
Transfer of bids are not permitted and doing so in any form will be seen as a form of collusion and your account will be suspended.
I am unable to place any bids?
Please make sure you have enough bids in your account or contact email@example.com we will rectify the problem.
I referred my friend but did not get any bids?
For referring a friend you receive 10 FREE bids once your friend has registered using the email address you supplied us and has made a successful purchase of bids. Also allow 48 hours for your bids to reflect in your account.
What are coupons?
Occasionally, BidFair will give coupons away to make things even cheaper for you! To redeem these coupons, go to “Buy Bids”, enter in your coupon code click on “Apply Coupon”. Your coupon will be applied immediately to all future bid purchases until you remove it or the coupon code expires.
PRODUCT & DELIVERY INFORMATION
How long does it take for me to receive my item?
Each item has its own time of delivery which can be view on the information bar in each specific auction. Generally it is within 7 working days, but please allow up to 14 working days for some products as delays could occur.
What happens if I no longer want the item I won?
If you won an auction but no longer want it, you can send through a request to firstname.lastname@example.org we will gladly assist you.
Can I refund my item?
No refunds of bids will be issued on items that have been won on an auction.
Can I exchange my item?
Items can only be exchanged only if damage occurred during delivery or if it has a manufacturer’s defect out of the box, however we will not cover the return delivery fee.
Are all products brand new?
All products on our site are brand name, brand new, and factory sealed! Additionally, all items come with the manufacturer’s warranty.
I received my item, but it does not work. What do I do?
You can send it back to us and we will gladly replace it for you however you will incur the delivery cost of sending it back to us.
What is Bid Butler?
What happens if you are bidding on an auction and you need to run to the restroom or catch a quick snack? You can use our BidFair Bid Butler to automatically place bids for you in a more efficient way than other leading auction sites. The BidFair Bid Butler lets you bid – even when you’re not sitting at your computer. Using BidFair Bid Butler to place your bid guarantees your bid will be placed in the last 10 seconds. There is no need to worry about losing your Internet connection or getting distracted in the final moments. Bid Butler’s will start placing bids for you in the final 30 seconds of the auction, so they won’t waste your bids by bidding unnecessarily.
How do I use the Bid Butler feature?
All you have to do is click on the “Bid Butlers” tab in the auction, enter the starting bid and maximum auction price you are willing to go to (this is at what auction price you want your Bid Butler to start bidding from and when you want it to stop), select the maximum number of bids you want your Bid Butler to use, then sit back and relax while your BidFair Bid Butler takes care of the rest!
Can I use the bid butler on more than one auction at a time?
Yes you can. Our BidFair Bid Butler is very hard working and can bid on as many auctions as you want him to.
Are Bid Butler available on all auctions?
The Bid Butler function is offered on many of our auctions however it is not offered on all of them. If you do not see it on the auction page, you might be looking at an auction where this function is not available.
What are the different auction types?
At BidFair we offer many different auction type to keep things exciting and fresh:
Penny auctions– after each bid the item price increases by one cent.
Reverse auctions – the item price starts high and decreases after each bid.
Peak auctions – can be paused and resumed in order to only run at peak times.
Beginner auctions – only new users can bid on items.
Free auctions – it costs nothing to bid on an item.
Nail-biter auctions – Bid Butlers cannot be used to bid on items.
Ticker auctions – the auction timer restarts after each bid.
Multiple bid increments – after each bid, the item price is raised by different increments.
Buy It Now auctions – users can buy items if they cannot wait until an auction ends.
What to do after you win an auction?
First, you will confirm and pay for your winning auction item. When the auction ends, you will be re-directed to a page where you’ll be asked to confirm that you won the item. This page also provides details on how to pay for the auction item. BidFair will ask for payment and shipping information after every auction regardless if it is your first win or 100th win. Once you confirm and pay for item, we’ll confirm your payment via email and ship your item to you. If the item hasn’t arrived within 14 days of our confirmation of your payment, please contact us at email@example.com
How long do I have to pay for the item?
You must confirm and pay for your win within 7 days after the auction has ended. If you don’t confirm within this time frame, we will assume you no longer want the item.
How does “BUY IT NOW” work?
Buy It Now offers you the chance to purchase any product at any time during the auction and up to 2 hours after the auction ends. Any real bids (aka Bid Pack bids) you place on an auction will be discounted off the value price at a rate of R3,50 per bid.
The “Buy it Now” option can only be used once by each user on each specific auction. However if that user wins the auction outright, that user may not use the “Buy it Now” option in conjunction with the original auction win.
To use the Buy It Now feature, you must have placed at least one bid in the auction. Any bids placed on an auction are offered as a discount against the value price of the item. The Buy It Now price can’t fall below R0.00, even if the discounted sum of all bids is more than the Value Price of the item.
If you use more bids than the value price, you will purchase the product for R0.00. The extra bids you use will not be returned. The purchase price cannot be negative.
Below is an example of how your discount for Buy It Now is calculated.
Value Price: R5000.00
Discount: Real Bids Placed x Bid Price: 1000 x R3,50 = – R3500.00
Buy It Now Price: R1500.00 + Shipping
The Buy It Now price will be updated after each bid you place.
Is there a limit to the auctions I can win?
Unlike other auction site, at the moment BidFair applies no restriction to the amount of auctions that can be won on a daily, monthly or yearly basis.
When does the auction end?
Each auction ends when the timer reaches “ENDED” on the BidFair’s servers.
Why is Time Added to the Auction Clock?
We add time to clock every time a user places a bid. This gives enough time for someone else to make the decision to bid if they are interested which is similar to the “Going once, Going twice, SOLD!” approach of traditional auctions.
The amount of time that will be added to the auction timer varies depending on the particular auction in increments of 10, 15, or 20 seconds.
Can I Bid If I Live Outside South Africa?
Unfortunately, we currently only operate in South Africa. We are looking to expand globally in the near future. We apologise for the inconvenience.
What’s the Difference Between the Auction Ending Price and the Value Price?
Auction End price –
The auction end price is the price of the auction item when the timer reaches “ENDED”. The winner will purchase the auction item for that price.
Value price –
The value price is listed as an indication of the market value of the product.
Recommended PC Requirements
You can participate in BidFair auctions with almost all PCs with Internet access, however, you will have a better experience with a high speed Internet connection:

Why Hasn’t My Bid Registered On an Auction?
Occasionally, users tell us that they placed a bid before the countdown ended, but it did not recognize that the bid was placed. Usually this is due to Internet lag times, or data transfer delays between your PC and our servers. This will happen if certain parts of the connection are overloaded. This also might occur if you are using a slow Internet connection, or if the connection has been lost.
Please see the tips below to help minimise this problem:
• While bidding on BidFair do not simultaneously download/upload large amounts of data (video,
audio, software, or other large files) on the Internet. This includes sending/receiving large email
• Make sure not too many people are using your connection to the Internet.
• Don’t wait until the last second to place a bid. Remember time will be added to the clock for any
last second bids.
• Use the BidFair Bid Butler function.

Auction Status During System Downtime
Downtime is an unforeseeable problem with the Internet. Bids may not be able to be placed during any downtime. After the problem is resolved, we will add back any time that was lost during the downtime to the clocks of each auction so bidders will not be left at a disadvantage. Any auctions that ended due to the downtime will be refunded and no winner will be awarded the item.
